PEEP SHOW -Has the Computer Become the Contemporary Peep Box?
The peep show has its origins in the 15th century European invention of a box for viewing pictures through a peep hole. This was called the Peep Box. The media for people's scopophilic satisfaction has changed with time. Many people consider film as the primary medium for satisfying voyeuristic desires, but in today's world we have to examine the internet as an optimal medium.
PEEP SHOW uses today's contemporary peep box (PC) as a venue to exhibit moving image works by contemporary artists on the theme of privacy and scopophilia. The works incorporate both aesthetic and political perspectives. The exhibition aims to reveal how artists are interrogating secrecy, spectacle, scopophilia, and surveillance as part of their artistic practice.
