Within the Image Mouvement exhibition: "Atlas. Truths, Details, Intervals and the Afterlives of the Image" no.w.here & Maxa Zoller invite you to a four-day critical discourse forum: Image | Event
"Released transcripts of mobile phone calls during the Mumbai attacks between the terrorists in Mumbai and their leaders in Pakistan show how the attack was staged in terms of creating images. Thus the ringleaders repeatedly insisted a fire be started in the Taj Hotel "to give the news cameras something to look at". They also dictated terms to the Mumbai police using a film metaphor "Tell them this is only the first act of this film, the main feature is still to come ...".
Mirza / Butler, Direct Speech Acts: On Language as Violence, (forthcoming 2011)
There are events embedded in image, events which take place outside the frame, events which exceed visual representation. There are images, which produce a physical experience, there are images, abstract or figurative, which give birth to an event. But how do artists respond to the conditions of image production today? How do we as viewers embody images? What are the thresholds of the Image as Event - the Event as Image?
IMAGE | EVENT proposes an exchange between the audience, and the work of six international contemporary artists and/or collectives that take up a critical position in the face of the complex realities of living in a world system. The proposal is not only to witness what occurs inside or outside these associated ways of seeing/relating, but to think about what occurs between these locations, the "organ-ic" space of the apparatus,of which the IMAGE |EVENT is. This idea will be explored in each event through the camera as a presence. The camera as an interlocutor for events "evidenced" in frame (news), as an apparatus that changes the pattern of events by its presence (social / intervention), and as a translator of events that would not happen had a camera not been present (choreography for the camera). Participants and audience members acknowledge that by attending they may be filmed.

The Museum of non Participation. UK http://www.mirza-butler.net/
The Museum of non Participation seeks thresholds in language and new possible sites of exhibition (and (non) participation) that provoke a contradictory pull between autonomy and social intervention, and reflect on this both in the structure of the work and in the conditions of its reception.
