The Super 8mm film gauge celebrates it’s 51st birthday this October the 22nd. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, no.w.here invites you to an evening with a magus of the medium, Hugh Metcalfe

Hugh is a pivotal British Super 8 filmmaker, and all round advocate for the melding of music, film and text in performance. He is the instigator and agitator behind the (frankly legendary) freewheeling Klinker club, as well as being a key member of such renowned improvisatory poetry and music performance groups such as Birdyak, Fuck Off Batman, The Small Faeces, and Extreme Quartet.

For over 30 years Metcalfe has shot with Super 8, documenting every aspect of human existence, from birth to death and everything in between. His resultant body of film work (three weeks of 24 hour projection and counting) veers between hysterical catharsis, shocking provocation, mutant home movie, and achingly beautiful, quasi-structural cine poetry.

For this screening, Metcalfe comes to no.w.here laden with unprocessed Super 8 cartridges generated over a two year period. In no.w.here’s darkroom, these inadvertent time capsules will be developed and shared with you, the discerning, film going public.

To make sonic sense of these half remembered films, Hugh will be joined by drummer Jim Le Baigue, poet Germander Speedwell, and James Holcombe.
