One minute films

Colour Bars, Simon Payne

Tate Modern, London
10/24 November 2007 | 10am - 1pm

This workshop explores the potential of working creatively with time and the moving image. Using examples of work by Stan Brakhage, Jonas Mekas, Simon Payne, John Smith and Jane and Louise Wilson, the tutors draw out the different ways that film and video artists have used documentary, painting, photography, sound and sculpture to explore time as a material. Participants are asked to make their own one-minute films between sessions, using any medium and crossing any genre. These works form the basis of discussion in the second session. No previous experience of filmmaking is necessary.
